Donald
Axleroad draws inspiration from his lifelong interest in Greek mythology in order
to provoke the viewer's awareness of the parallels in current issues. In his latest
work, he draws the parallels between the tragic figures in ancient mythology and
the contemporary victims of war and vengeance, and also the victims of Alzheimers
disease and other dementias. These victims are all affected by forces beyond human
control. Axleroad
has received numerous prestigious awards including a Silver Medal from the Allied
Artists of America at the Salmagundi Club in New York and a Graphics Award from
the National arts Club of New Yorks Allied Artist of America Exhibition,
as well as top prizes in many Fairfield County art associations. He has exhibited
in major museums on the East coast and in a UN sponsored traveling exhibit of
100 American printmakers. A graduate of Pratt Institute, he has studied with Philip
Guston, Richard Linder and Antonio Frasconi. In
addition to pursuing his artistic career, Axleroad has reached out to help dozens
of others move forward in their lives. He is founder and Executive Director of
the ARI Artists Initiative of Stamford which teaches developmentally disabled
adults to draw and paint. Select
